Most people who start a business aren’t thinking about accounts and tax returns.
They’re thinking about the life it will give them.
Most people who start a business aren’t thinking about accounts and tax returns.
They’re thinking about the life it will give them.
Remember how you felt?
When you started this business, there was a picture.
Not a spreadsheet. A picture of what your life would look like. The freedom. The income. The time you’d have with the people you love.
The pride of building something genuinely yours. Maybe a team around you doing good work.
Maybe just the quiet satisfaction of never having to answer to anyone but yourself.
Most business owners can describe that picture in detail, even years later. It was vivid. It felt real. It was the reason you took the risks and put the hours in.

Most business owners can describe that picture in detail, even years later. It was vivid. It felt real. It was the reason you took the risks and put the hours in.
And then you built the business
It grew. You worked hard. By most measures, you’ve done well. There’s money in the bank. There’s a team. There are clients who rely on you and people who depend on what you’ve built.
But somewhere along the way, something shifted.
Instead of the business delivering the life, it started demanding more of it. More hours. More decisions. More of your energy, your evenings, your headspace.
The business has a momentum of its own now, and it isn’t always heading in the same direction you are.
The gap between where you are and where you imagined you’d be can start to feel less like a delay and more like your new reality.
That’s worth pausing on. Because it’s not inevitable.
Most business owners build their business first, then try to fit their life around whatever space is left. They optimise for revenue, for growth, for what the business needs. The life they wanted becomes something they’ll get to when the time is right.
The time is rarely right.
The harder part is, it’s difficult to talk about
The people around you: family, friends, employees, either depend on you or assume you’re fine, because the business looks successful from the outside. The advisers you’ve worked with have focused on the numbers and left the rest alone.
So the bigger questions tend to sit quietly in the background. Not “how do I grow revenue?” but something closer to:
Is this business actually working for me?
Am I getting everything I could from this?
Or is there a better version of this I haven’t found yet?
Those aren’t questions most accountants think to ask.

That’s where we start
Before we look at your numbers, we ask about the picture. The one you had when you started this business, and the one you have now.
Is the business giving you the freedom, the income, the time you want with the people you love?
Is this the business you want to spend the next ten years building, or a stepping stone to something else?
We ask because your answers change everything that comes after: the financial planning, the tax strategy, the advice we give you. None of it means much without knowing what you're aiming for.
We work with a small number of clients deliberately. What we’re describing takes time, energy, and commitment from both sides.
If you want compliance done cheaply, we’re not for you. If you want an accountant who starts with the life you want before your numbers, we should talk.
If you would like to find out how we can help, let's talk.
